Science, Time and CBDs
The Benefits of CBDs For Your Health…
When I first started (very young) with the use of cannabis, I had no idea of what would develop over my life. I did know that it was a plant that I liked very much.
It made my life easier. Not in the way that I was ‘doped’ up, but it did give me comfort, and aided in my survival through a very difficult childhood and on into equally difficult and tumultuous teen years.
As I write this, I’m in northern Peru, and I haven’t smoke anything in months- so I’ve a clear retrospective as I lovingly build this site. But I know that it wouldn’t take me long to find her if I really needed THC- but thankfully, for the world now, CBDs are right around (almost) every corner.
That said, this is not about me, it’s about bringing the best information I can, to those that are looking for it. If you’d like to know more, please visit my ‘About Me’ page.
What are CBDs?
CBD, or cannabidiol, is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis (marijuana). While CBD is an essential component of medical marijuana, it is derived directly from the hemp plant, a cousin of marijuana, or manufactured in a laboratory. One of hundreds of components in marijuana, CBD does not cause a “high” by itself. According to a report from the World Health Organization, “In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential…. To date, there is no evidence of public health related problems associated with the use of pure CBD.” From Health.Harvard.edu
CBDs have been shown to have significant medical benefits, such as reducing inflammation and pain, suppressing seizures, and relieving anxiety. It’s also been shown that CBD oil can reduce seizures for some people with epilepsy.
In addition to these benefits, CBDs may also have the ability to mitigate the risk of addiction through their effects on addiction genes.
Studies have also found that CBD can help regenerate nerve cells in your brain after being exposed to radiation therapy and lower emotional and physical stress levels.
CBDs, short for Cannabidiols, are a type of cannabinoid found in hemp and marijuana. The chemical structure is similar to THC but it does not produce the same psychoactive effects from smoking cannabis.
Many people have been using CBDs to treat a variety of different medical conditions. The use of CBDs has been increasing because it is a safer alternative to other medications and the effects are not addictive.
What are the benefits of CBDs for your health?
CBDs are a non-psychoactive compound in cannabis that has been proven to have a variety of health benefits. It is naturally occurring in hemp and marijuana, but in the latter it must be cultivated for this specific use. CBDs have been found to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neuroprotective and even anti-tumoral effects.
(Cancer?)
CBDs Are Also An Antioxidant
Many people are starting to use CBDs as a natural remedy for a variety of ailments. Unlike other chemical compounds, CBDs contain antioxidant properties which help to prevent damage from oxidative stress.
Antioxidants work by eliminating free radicals and reducing oxidative stress, which can lead to more diseases such as cancer and heart disease. Many studies have been done on how CBDs affect healthy cells and this includes more than just antioxidant properties.
CBDs act as antioxidants by preventing oxidative damage in cells, thereby slowing down or reversing cell aging. A recently conducted study found that CBD is also effective at boosting mitochondrial function.
As more research opens up with regards to CBDs, there is growing interest in the use of these products as an alternative treatment- that’s quickly moving into the mainstream.
CBDs Can Help Reduce Anxiety
Many people struggle with anxiety and mood disorders often without knowing the right way to deal with it.
*So, as a young man, and without realizing it, this is how marijuana was helping me.
Anxiety disorders are very common in the United States, with about 1 in 3 adults experiencing some form of anxiety each year. People with anxiety disorders often have panic attacks, trouble sleeping, and experience an excess of stress.
It can be difficult to manage these feelings without professional therapy; however, CBDs often offer some relief. CBDs are non-intoxicating chemicals found in cannabis plants that help relieve feelings of stress and anxiety when consumed- in any number of ways.
Many mental health disorders are on the rise, and doctors are working hard to figure out the best way of managing their symptoms.
Patients are looking for alternative treatments for these ailments, and they’re finding help in CBDs.
Studies have shown that CBDs can reduce anxiety by up to 40% and are not (generally considered) addictive, nor do they have the wide range of side-effects often suffered with pharmaceutical drugs.
CBDs or cannabidiols are derived from cannabis plants but (usually) contain no THC, which is the psychoactive ingredient that creates a high when entered into your body.
CBDs Affect Body Temperature
Topical CBDs can also affect body temperature. In a recent study, twenty male participants were given a dose of 800mg of cannabidiol.
The findings showed that the skin under the armpits became cooler following administration, as opposed to those who received a placebo.
This may be because the cannabinoids from cannabis bind to CB1 receptors in the skin and activate a region of the brain that deals with changes in body temperature.
Other Healing Properties of CBDs Being Studied
CBDs (cannabidiol) are known for their natural healing properties.
From my first hand (a pun you will see), I had a pretty severe burn from a flash-back of ignited gasoline. This hurt and I could barely move my hand and wrist. I immediately applied some topical CBD cream I had that a friend had made on Mt. Shasta, CA.
Immediately the pain subsided- and my hand healed perfectly without any scaring whatsoever.
Truly, it was amazing!
How CBDs Can Help With Chronic Pain
Everyone knows that pain can be a serious issue- especially when it doesn’t let up. Your body heals when you sleep, but if your constant pain is so intense you can’t sleep, you’ll soon find yourself in an even worse state.
CBDs can help with chronic pain because they activate certain receptors in the brain to lessen its impact. CBDs are not addictive and have no side effects when used correctly. They can be taken through oral consumption or through topical application.
Cannabinoids (including CBDs) can help with chronic pain by blocking the pain receptors in our bodies. They work especially well with anti-inflammatory drugs, since they both suppress pain and inflammation. Cannabinoids also help relax muscles, something that many people struggle with when they are experiencing chronic pain.
CBDs Can Act As An Antipsychotic
CBDs act as an antipsychotic to relieve anxiety, paranoia and running anxious thoughts.
The cannabidiol (CBD) molecule is a non-intoxicating compound that does not cause the psychoactive effects of THC. Cannabidiol was first discovered in 1940 and today is used mainly for medical treatment.
The use of CBDs as a neuroprotective agent or as a treatment for psychosis is not yet well understood. However, the compound has shown promise in treating schizophrenia and other disorders that have psychotic features, such as Bipolar Disorder.
Early research suggests that CBDs may work by affecting neurotransmitter release and interacting with a number of receptors.
The legalization of CBDs in general, and recreational Marijuana as well, has caused a booming industry with many benefits for the human body.
CBDs can be administered in a variety of ways, either orally or through inhalation, and the effects can be felt immediately without any severe side effects as opposed to so many other methods of pain relief.
Infact, they’re now considered so safe that they are sold over the counter in most countries.
CBDs Can Also Act As A Sleep Aid
CBDs act as a sleep aid…
It has been shown that CBDs can reduce anxiety, which is a contributor to insomnia in some cases when someone feels anxious about their sleeping patterns or worries about their upcoming day when they need to get up early. The problem becomes cyclical.
CBDs are a safe, natural alternative to pharmaceutical sleep aids. They provide relief by helping your body enter the right brainwave state for restful sleep, without the side effects associated with some sleep medications.
There are many benefits of CBDs as a sleep aid. CBDs are categorized as an herbal supplement, which means that they are not currently regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)- making them readily available to the general public.
CBDs and Their Role in Reducing Pain and Inflammation
CBDs have become a popular topic in recent years, due to the emerging evidence that they may help reduce pain and inflammation. CBDs are a type of cannabinoid found naturally in plants such as cannabis, but can also be found in other plants such as echinacea or hemp. They have been studied for their potential therapeutic properties, so far with very promising results.
So promising, the industry has exploded in growth!
There is an abundance of scientific literature discussing the use of CBDs as an alternative form of treatment, due to how well-studied they are.
CBDs And Their Role In A Healthy Lifestyle
CBDs (Cannabidiol) are potent compounds that can be found in hemp oil, topical solutions and many other means of delivery- even in candy.
It is now well-known that CBDs can help provide balance to our endocrine system and immune system.
In recent years CBD products have been gaining popularity as a natural way to supplement a healthy lifestyle.
Another fantastic way they help support a healthy lifestyle is by helping athletes recover faster- from hard injuries or just intense workouts.
Thankfully, science and the entrance to the mainstream has helped reduce the stigma that once existed around this plant and its derivatives.
We’ve come such a long way with science and CBDs, and still there’s so much to learn- the future is wide open.
